The Red Dragons came into the season ready to defend their title with the majority of the roster returning and all the confidence, eyes in San Diego were set to repeat as the RFL Champions.
Through the first half of the season things have not gone as planned, they are currently sitting at 5-4 and are lucky to be there. The Red Dragons know they could be easily sitting at 2-7 (3 wins came by a combined 9 points) and an thank their championship pedigree to pulling out the wins that they did. Since the week 7 2 point victory over the Voyagers they have lost 3 straight that including a devastating loss to the Pioneers 34-17.
With a NFL bye week, Coach Davis has had time to gather the team and hit the reset button. "Going into the season we knew the target would be on our backs but little did we know everyone would be hitting the bullseye." A Struggling offense that is lacking in a usually strong rushing attack and subpar offensive line play, Savoy cannot continue to get hit at the rate he is and hope to make it through the remainder of the year.
The defense is not playing bad, this seems like a win but it is not. The Defense is not playing up to their typical dominant ways of what they are used to. For the Red Dragons to get back in the playoffs and have a shot at defending their Title they will need for the veterans Raymond, Stone, Celestin and Williamson to bring the defense back to dominance and also get more production and playmaking from Boucher, Higgins and Henry that can create easy opportunities for the Red Dragons offense.
With the RFL battles left on the schedule, the road back to the playoffs is tough but these are the times when champions are made and the Red Dragons are ready to prove what they truly are....Champions!
